Natalia Villanueva(b.1975) incorporates ceramics in her paintings, combining layers of glass enamel with oil and acrylic paints that she applies with a spatula, lending her work the luster of colors that are characteristic of ceramics. The juxtaposition of materials used allows her to create a contrast between bright and opaque areas. Villanueva paints imaginary seascapes with lots of light, contrast, and texture- modernizing the tradition of nautical painting.
