Born 1935 Mel Ramos has experimented freely with realist and abstract art forms. His work can be described as super-realism and is one of the significant artists in the 1960’s pop-art movement. In an era of artists such as Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein, Claes Oldenburg and James Rosenquist, he produced art that celebrated aspects of popular culture as represented in mass media. His work is humorous and often poses women with large, out-of place objects.
