ABOUT THE ARTIST
Zhang Hui (b.1957) has been strongly influenced by Lin Fengmian’s unique way of using lines to depict figures. In the 1990s, Zhang lived in Japan and fully absorbed the essence of Ukiyo-e and enriched his lady portraits with a layer of exoticness. Zhang adapted the skills of Western painting and emphasized the using of light in his works. This has not only brightened the traditional Chinese paintings with fresh colours, but also brought out the modernity in his pictures.
