The Colour of Light by Wessel Huisman

06 April - 06 May, 2016

Wessel Huisman

Wessel Huisman’s new series highlights the familiar urban cityscapes of Hong Kong, Shanghai and Beijing. For the artist, Hong Kong’s architecture is like a stage where light changes, reflects and bounces off myriad surfaces and angles creating a unique panorama of light. Born in 1954 in Breda, Netherlands, Huisman uses ‘light memories’ to create a sense of a faraway time and space alive in the present, imbuing the figuratively rendered urban facades in a glow of distant but familiar light. Abstract features such as lines, strokes and rectangles are added to suggest further depth and movement. The artist’s works have been exhibited throughout Europe and Asia. Members of the Dutch Royal family and international corporations like Heineken are among his esteemed collectors.
