Aiko Robinson

New Zealand

Aiko Robinson's artwork is a response to Shunga (‘spring pictures’), a form of pornography flourished in Japan during the Edo period between the 17th and 19th centuries. The theme and signature feature of Aiko’s work is headless figures engaging in erotic acts, allowing the sexual content to remain temporarily hidden in plain sight for viewer to focus on the body and cloth as a flowing unity.
